Tekton Joins the CNCF as an Incubating Project
We’re thrilled to announce that the CNCF Technical Oversight Committee (TOC) has voted to accept Tekton as a CNCF incubating project!
This is a landmark moment for the Tekton community and marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the project.

From the CDF to the CNCF
Tekton was donated to the Continuous Delivery Foundation (CDF) in March 2019, shortly after its creation. The CDF provided a nurturing home where Tekton grew from an early-stage project into a graduated open source project with a vibrant community and broad adoption across the industry.
We’re deeply grateful to the CDF and the Linux Foundation for their years of support, mentorship, and stewardship. The foundation played a critical role in Tekton’s growth — from establishing governance and release processes to sponsoring an independent security audit and helping the project reach graduation.
Moving to the CNCF places Tekton alongside other foundational cloud-native projects like Kubernetes, Knative, and Argo — projects that Tekton already integrates with and complements in production environments around the world.
What This Means for Users and Contributors
For existing Tekton users: nothing changes today. Tekton’s APIs, releases, and support policies remain the same. You can continue using Tekton exactly as you do now.
For contributors: the project will transition its governance and infrastructure to align with CNCF processes over time. The community will communicate any changes as they happen. Contribution workflows, communication channels, and the welcoming culture of the project remain the same.
What’s Next
The Tekton community will work through the transition over the coming months. We’ll share updates on any changes to infrastructure, governance, or processes as they happen.
In the meantime, we continue to ship — with recent releases like Tekton Pipelines v1.10.0 and Pipelines-as-Code joining the Tekton organization, the project has never been more active.
Thank you to everyone who has contributed to Tekton over the years — whether through code, documentation, issue reports, talks, blog posts, or simply using the project and sharing feedback. This milestone belongs to the entire community.
Welcome to the CNCF, Tekton! 🎉
